Vila-rodona hosted yesterday, Sunday, November 2, a sectoral conference dedicated to analyzing the current situation of cava. The event, organized by the Catalan Institute of Vine and Wine (INCAVI), was held in the Centenary Hall of the Vila-rodona Cooperative Winery, within the framework of the town’s Agricultural Fair.

The conference brought together representatives from INCAVI, the Cava Regulatory Council, Unió de Pagesos, the Vila-rodona Cooperative, and Castell d’OR, who sought to analyze first-hand the current state of a product so emblematic for Catalonia.

Among the speakers were Joan Gené i Albesa, Director General of the Catalan Institute of Vine and Wine; Adrià Rabadà, President of Castell d’OR; and Xavier Pié, President of the Vila-rodona Cooperative Winery, who took an active part in discussions on the future of the sector and the importance of differentiating products within the Cava PDO.

The conference featured four half-hour presentations focused on key topics such as the new package of European measures for the wine sector, the future vision for cava and the creation of production subzones, the situation of the producer and cooperative sector, and finally a wine tasting led by the renowned sommelier Anna Casabona.

The closing ceremony was led by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Òscar Ordeig, who emphasized “the importance of working together, and moving forward as one, to strengthen the competitiveness and prestige of Catalan cava.”

After the technical session, the minister visited the Agricultural Fair and later the Vila-rodona Town Hall, from whose balcony he presided over the traditional castellera (human tower) event together with Mayor Josep Comas.

With this conference, Vila-rodona consolidates itself as a key meeting point for discussion and promotion of the cava sector and the cooperative wine-growing community.
