The group has won four medals at a competition that sets trends in the Japanese market.
In this edition, Castell d’Or has been awarded the following distinctions:
- Castell d’Or Imperial Cava Brut Reserva – Gold Medal
- Castell d’Or Cava Brut – Silver Medal
- Castell d’Or Cava Brut Nature – Silver Medal
- Masia Bou Cava Brut Rosé – Silver Medal
The CEO of Castell d’Or, Jordi Amell, has stated that “these recognitions are a testament to the value and quality of our cavas in the Asian market, particularly in Japan, where the combination of our products with local cuisine creates a perfect pairing. We continue working to maintain our position as a reference in this strategic market.”
Presided over by Yumi Tanabe, a renowned wine educator in Japan, the Sakura competition has grown to become the most influential wine competition in Asia, receiving over 4,000 wines from around the world each year. The organisers emphasise that this competition fosters new wine selection criteria from a female perspective and drives the evolution of the wine market in Japan.
The jury, composed of professionals such as sommeliers, oenologists, professors, journalists, and representatives from the hospitality and distribution sectors, reflects the growing presence of women in the industry. According to Yumi Tanabe, 43% of sommeliers in Japan are women, breaking with the traditionally male-dominated view of the wine world.
Cava has gained ground in the Japanese market thanks to its balance between quality, versatility, and competitive pricing compared to other sparkling wines. Japanese consumers value the freshness, elegance, and the ability of these wines to pair with their rich cuisine, where sophistication is sought without sacrificing value for money. Castell d’Or has managed to adapt to this context, offering products that cater to the tastes and values of a demanding market that is increasingly loyal to Catalan sparkling wines.
