Cava Castell d’Or Brut and Cava Brut Cabaret Orgànic have been selected among the best sparkling wines in the world

The Castell d’Or group has been recognised with two gold medals in the latest edition of the Sélections Mondiales des Vins Canada Competition, considered North America’s most important wine competition. The event took place in the city of Montreal from October 11 to 15, 2023. The jury of the competition, in which more than 1,560 wines from 26 countries participated, awarded gold medals to two Castell d’Or sparklings with the Designation of Origin of Cava.

The Cava Castell d’Or Brut added another gold medal to its awards collection obtained in other competitions in recent years. Cava Castell d’Or Brut is made with the Xarel·lo, Macabeo and Parellada varieties. It is a very expressive and aromatic cava, of medium intensity, with notes of citrus and green fruits like apple and pear. It is aged in the bottle in contact with lees for a minimum of twelve months.

Cava Cabaret Brut Organic, a new reference of Castell d’Or winery, on the contrary, has received its first gold medal. This cava is also made with the classic cava varieties, has a pale lemon color with golden reflections and elegant bubbles. Since the grapes for this cava were collected from the vineyards situated on the higher altitudes, this sparkling wine leaves a mineral aftertaste on the pallet and more than a year spent in contact with lees brings to the wine hints of hazelnut and brioche.  As stated on the label, this cava is made with 100% organic production.

The CEO of Castell d’Or, Jordi Amell considers this award as “a clear indication of the increase in the North American market’s appreciation and understanding of cava.” He pointed out that “the award-winning cavas very well represent the region where they are made, due to autochthon varieties and traditional elaboration practices used. He also stressed a firm commitment to organic products, the demand for which is growing”. “This recognition reinforces the position of Castell d’Or as a reference brand in the production of quality wines and cavas at an international level” –  says Mr Amell.
