Castell d’Or cavas have once again stood out at the International SAKURA Japan Women’s Wine Award Competition, the most prestigious wine contest in Asia and one of the leading trendsetters in the Japanese market.

Made up exclusively of women professionals from the Japanese wine sector — including sommeliers, winemakers, educators, journalists, and experts in hospitality and distribution — this competition has established itself as a key reference point for consumers in Japan and across the Asian region. Year after year, the contest reflects the evolution of market preferences and promotes new selection criteria from a female perspective, reinforcing the growing role of women in the country’s wine industry.

Award-winning Cavas

In the 2026 edition, Castell d’Or received three outstanding medals:

  • CASTELL D’OR CABARET CAVA BRUT NATURE RESERVA IMPERIAL 2022 – Gold Medal

  • CASTELL D’OR PUPITRE CAVA BRUT RESERVA 2022 – Gold Medal

  • CASTELL D’OR PUPITRE CAVA BRUT OR – Silver Medal

These awards strengthen the group’s position in Japan, an increasingly important market for the cava sector. Japanese consumers particularly appreciate elegance, freshness, and fine bubbles, as well as the gastronomic versatility of sparkling wines. In this context, Castell d’Or cavas have successfully connected with a culinary culture renowned worldwide for its sensitivity, precision, and respect for ingredients.

A perfect market for Cava

Castell d’Or’s CEO, Jordi Amell, emphasized that “Japan is an especially interesting market for the cava sector, with an incredible gastronomic culture and a high level of demand. Cava finds a natural fit there: its freshness, balance, and food-pairing versatility make it a great companion to refined and diverse cuisines such as Japanese gastronomy. These awards encourage us to continue strengthening our presence in this strategic environment.”

The competition is chaired by Yumi Tanabe, one of the most respected figures in the Japanese wine scene. With thousands of entries from around the world each year, the Sakura Awards have become a trend barometer and a key platform for the international promotion of wines and cavas in the Asian market.

With these new recognitions, Castell d’Or reaffirms its commitment to quality and to the international projection of its cavas, consolidating its presence in a demanding and sophisticated market with strong growth potential for Catalan sparkling wines.
