The Vila-seca International Short Film Festival (FICVI) began this weekend its tenth edition, a very special milestone that consolidates the event as one of Spain’s leading short film festivals and as a key cultural event in the region. From last Friday until October 26, the Celler de Vila-seca once again fills with short-format cinema, offering a programme that combines premieres, award-winning titles, and the presence of renowned figures from the audiovisual world.
This year, the FICVI features a notable new partnership: Castell d’Or, joining the festival for the first time to support culture and creativity. This collaboration reinforces the winery cooperative’s commitment to supporting cultural initiatives that connect with the territory and with shared values such as teamwork, passion, and excellence. Deeply rooted in the Tarragona region, Castell d’Or is dedicated to promoting talent and celebrating art in all its forms —from wine to cinema and music.
Journalist and TV presenter Espartac Peran hosted the opening gala, which set the tone for an edition distinguished by the artistic and technical quality of the participating films. The festival received more than 1,100 short films from 56 countries, of which 47 compete in the official section, along with 30 in FICVI Jove, 7 in the DO Catalunya Award, and 4 in the Shorts&Wine section, where cinema and wine —two deeply rooted cultural expressions— come together naturally.
Among the most anticipated titles are El Otro, by Eduard Fernández —which also opened the festival—, Huir, by Kike Maíllo and Alejandro Rivera; Ones, by Juanjo Giménez, Palme d’Or winner at Cannes and Oscar nominee; and The One Note Man, starring Jason Watkins (The Crown, Netflix). Animation also takes center stage with premieres such as Casablanca, by Riho Unt, and Tapeworm Alexis & Opera Diva, by Thaïs Odermatt.
All screenings and festival activities are free to attend, aiming to bring cinema closer to everyone and make culture a shared experience.
As the grand finale of this anniversary edition, the festival will honor actress Emma Vilarasau with the Honorary Career Award, coinciding with the screening of Sisè primera, by Albert Carbó, winner of FICVI Jove 2023 and the only Catalan short film included in the 2025 Goya shortlist.
Through this collaboration, Castell d’Or reaffirms its commitment to culture, music, and local talent, consolidating itself as a brand that believes in the power of stories that bring us together.
